On Monday, Mississippi enrolled an anti-trans bill that will ban driver's license gender marker changes for transgender people across the state. The bill, which now awaits Republican Gov. Tate Reeves' signature, requires that all Mississippi driver's licenses reflect the holder's sex assigned at birth and explicitly states that court orders recognizing a gender change "shall have no effect" on license issuance. It is the latest in a wave of extreme anti-transgender identification document bans in recent months, following Kansas's decision in February to invalidate transgender people's driver's licenses overnight with no grace periodâa story we at EITM broke. Though the Mississippi bill does not retroactively invalidate existing licenses the way Kansas did, any transgender Mississippian whose license comes up for renewal will be forced to carry identification that does not match their identity, should the governor sign it.
[âŠ]
The bill is the latest in a growing wave of anti-transgender identification document laws. In February, Kansas went further than any state before it, invalidating transgender people's driver's licenses overnight and sending letters demanding their immediate surrenderâleaving many scrambling and unable to get to work, pick up their children, and navigate daily life with suddenly invalid IDs. Though Mississippi's bill does not contain those instant revocation provisions, the effect will be the same over time: as licenses come up for renewal, transgender Mississippians will be forced to carry documents that out them. According to the Movement Advancement Project, seven states already do not allow transgender people to update the gender marker on their driver's license. If Gov. Reeves signs SB 2322, Mississippi will become the eighth.

Mississippi Becomes The Latest State To Pass Ban On Trans Drivers License Changes
in Erin in the Morning"You Outlaw It": Heritage Foundation President Announces Intent To Outlaw All Trans Adult Care
in Erin in the MorningThere's video of Roberts saying all this, if anybody needs an emetic:
"But where there continues to be disagreement is on what you do with adults. At Heritage, we believe that so-called transgender surgery is bad for anybody because of what you saw in Rhode Island yesterday," said Roberts, referencing a domestic violence shooting at a Rhode Island ice rink the day before. "There does seem to be a mounting body of evidence that suggests a correlation between that surgery at any age, mental health issues, and increasingly, although we're running the numbers on this at Heritage, acts of violence. We have to come to grips with that as a society, in a way that transcends left versus right, because this really is about the human condition." "How do you address this, though?" replied host Patrick Bet-David. "You outlaw it," Roberts responded.
Then, when asked if transgender adults should have their medication taken away, Roberts endorsed the idea, stating, "We like that idea, too. One of the reasons is that we not only work in coalitions, but we often work toward an ultimate goal via incremental stepsâsometimes people will call us radical incrementalists. We're willing to take a quarter of the enchilada if we can keep working there. So if that's the kind of thing that policymakers can agree on left and right, Heritage would be fully supportive of that, knowing that ultimately we have an ideal position that would be much stronger than that."
[âŠ]
One thing is clear: gender-affirming care bans have never been about science, despite attempts by far-right organizations to launder their lobbying efforts through pseudoscientific hate groups and overseas "reviews." Rather, itâs always been about hate. That much is made clear by the openly-stated agenda of a billionaire-funded political machine that has always been working towards one goal: the elimination of transgender people from public life. The only thing that has changed is that they are now saying it out loud.
Remember when Roberts voiced support for self-avowed Nazi Nick Fuentes and the respectable mainstream media cried with one voice "He's gone too far! This is the beginning of the end of the MAGA coalition!"?
Nope. They're only getting louder and more brazen.
Landmark Report Finds Major Flaws in the Cass Review
in Erin in the MorningAlmost two dozen researchers at a top medical journal have published a scathing scientific takedown of the Cass Review. Experts found that the NHS-issued reportâa non-peer reviewed publication authored by Dr. Hillary Cass, a pediatrician without clinical or research experience with trans patientsâwas marred by âunexplained protocol deviations,â âmethodological flaws,â and âunsubstantiated claims.â
Published on May 10 in BMC Medical Research Methodology, the report identified critical flaws in the study. The Cass Review led to a ban on puberty blockers targeting trans children in the UK. However, puberty blockers remain readily available to cisgender children, who may need them for conditions like precocious puberty.
âThese issues significantly undermine the validity of the Cass Reviewâs recommendations, such that the Review fails to fulfil its aims as commissioned and should not be used as the basis for policy making,â the researchers said in a statement to Erin in the Morning.
The Cass Review has been rejected by countless medical organizations across the globe which oversee aspects of trans health careâincluding the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), the Endocrine Society, The American Academy of Pediatrics, the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany, and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, to name just a few.
Nonetheless, it continues to act as the vanguard for anti-trans lawmakers and leaders grasping at straws for a scientific basis to further an extremist political agenda.
Republicans Push FBI To Designate Trans Advocacy As Violent Extremism. Inside The Project 2025 Organization's Proposal.
in Erin in the MorningOn Thursday evening, independent journalist Ken Klippenstein reported that the FBI is developing tools to identify transgender suspects and classify them as ânihilistic violent extremists.â Within hours, the Oversight Project at the Heritage Foundationâthe same outfit driving Project 2025âs blueprint now being implemented inside the federal governmentâreleased a four-page memo urging the bureau to go even further. Its proposal: formally designate all transgender activism as âTrans Ideology-Inspired Violent Extremism,â a new category of domestic terror threat. Itâs important to note that the Heritage Foundation is not itself the federal government, and to our knowledge, its proposals are not yet in place. But the groupâs influence is vast, especially in the wake of a Trump administration openly committed to implementing Project 2025. That makes its latest push far more than just a think-tank memoâitâs a roadmap for policy. Hereâs what you need to know about the proposal.
[âŠ]
Weâve seen this playbook before. The U.S. government has a long record of turning surveillance tools against civil rights movements. COINTELPRO, the infamous FBI program from 1956 to 1971, targeted Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and countless others in an effort to disrupt the civil rights movement. The same tactics were deployed against Vietnam War protestors and the gay rights movement of the â60s and â70s. After 9/11, Muslim communities bore the brunt of an expanded national security state, subjected to dragnet monitoring and infiltration. Now, under this proposal, those same techniques could be repurposed against transgender rights leaders and organizationsâcasting constitutionally protected advocacy as extremism to be neutralized.
The Trump Administration Threat To Transgender Adult Care Is Growing At Lightning Speed
in Erin in the MorningAnti-trans organizations have floated raising the age limit for care to 25 for years, and GOP architects of youth care bans have been explicit: the real goal is to eliminate gender-affirming care entirely. Donald Trump himself has vowed in the past to target trans healthcare âat any age.â Now, with a new letter from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) circulating to clinics nationwide, the first formal warning shots have been fired. Transgender adults should take noticeâand prepare. The infrastructure to strip their care is already being built.
According to a recent CMS letter, clinics across the country are being warned against providing gender-affirming care to individuals under the age of 21. âFederal financial participation (FFP) is strictly limited for procedures, treatments, or operations for the purpose of rendering an individual permanently incapable of reproducing and, under 42 C.F.R. 441.253(a), is specifically prohibited for such procedures performed on a person under age 21,â the letter reads, citing a 1978 regulation restricting federal funding for sterilization. But gender-affirming care for adults rarely meets that definition. Many transgender men and women retain the ability to have children after temporarily stopping hormone therapy, and fertility counseling is routinely offered. When sterilization does occur, it is not the goal of the careâit is an incidental outcome of treatment meant to alleviate gender dysphoria.
More troubling is the use of this decades-old regulation to pressure health care centers into dropping transgender care for adults. The expansion of restrictions to include people up to the age of 21 follows a recent Trump executive order barring gender-affirming care for anyone under 19âa category that includes legal adults. Although that order has been blocked in multiple courts, hospitals have still used it to justify halting care for this population. Now, the CMS letter is having a similar chilling effect: Planned Parenthood of Arizona has âpausedâ gender-affirming care for all adult patients. This is a deeply alarming development, especially considering that Planned Parenthood is the largestâand often the onlyâprovider of transgender adult healthcare in many parts of the country.
âImproper IdeologyââTrump Demands Womenâs History Museum Remove Trans People or Lose Funding
in Erin in the MorningâOver the past decade, Americans have witnessed a concerted and widespread effort to rewrite our Nationâs history, replacing objective facts with a distorted narrative driven by ideology rather than truth,â reads President Donald Trumpâs March 27 executive order.
He then declared that the accomplishments of trans people, and trans women in particular, must be removed from the Smithsonian American Womenâs History Museum because they constitute an âimproper ideology.â
The order condemns a planned exhibit at the Museum that would feature trans athletes. Now, Vice President J.D. Vance, alongside members of the presidential cabinet and staff, will lead the way in a sweeping overhaul of Museum exhibits, programming and leadership by blocking funding unless the Museum promises it will ânot recognize men as women in any respect.â The language is a thinly veiled directive to remove trans women from the museum entirely.
Human Rights Campaign President Kelley Robinson said in a statement that the order was nothing less than âfascismâ at work.
[âŠ]
Meanwhile, in a troubling echo of Trumpâs policies on trans people, the executive order condemns the Smithsonian for framing race as a âsocial constructâ rather than what Trump thinks it is: a âbiological reality.â
ED, DOJ Launch Joint Investigations Team Targeting Trans Students
in Erin in the MorningThe Department of Justice and the Department of Education have joined forces to create a Title IX Special Investigations Team, targeting âthe pernicious effects of gender ideology in school programs and activities,â as per an April 4 press release.
Enacted by Congress in 1972, Title IX was meant to protect students at all levels from discrimination âon the basis of sex.â Traditionally, itâs been used to combat sex-based violence, harassment, and discrimination within federally-funded academic institutions. At least 21 state attorneys general have also explicitly stated that Title IX protections include trans people.
Under the Trump regime, however, Title IX has taken on a new role. Itâs become a tool for harassing trans students, or students merely suspected of being trans, especially if those students are athletes.
âProtecting women and womenâs sports is a key priority for this Department of Justice,â said Attorney General Pamela Bondi, a Trump appointee, in a press release announcing the new effort.
Secretary of Education Linda McMahon is also standing at the helm. The ex-World Wrestling Entertainment CEO has a messy, decades-long history tainted by reports implicating her in child sex abuse and steroid scandals at the WWE.
Republican Senator Tuberville Falsely Claims "Entire Teams Are Turning Trans"
in Erin in the MorningJust putting this here until it's superseded by something even more ridiculous.
In an interview Sunday on Foxâs Sunday Morning Futures, Alabama Senator and former football coach Tommy Tuberville claimed that âentire menâs teams⊠womenâs teams are turning trans.â Tuberville previously served as the primary sponsor of a national transgender sports ban, which was defeated in the U.S. Senate earlier this year. The senator offered no evidence for his incendiary claim, and to date, there is no documented instance of âentire teamsâ identifying as transgender. His remarks follow a string of increasingly exaggerated claims from Republicans and President Trump about the presence of transgender people in sports and schools.
âEntire menâs teams across this country now that are turning trans⊠womenâs teams that are turning trans. Thatâs going to be a situation now where it is going to pick up speed, because these woke globalists are pushing these kids to say, âif you canât compete in menâs sports, letâs just transition to say youâre a woman and participate in womenâs sports.â It is dead wrong, and weâve got to stand up against it, but the Democrats⊠theyâre all in of keeping this situation going in the wrong direction,â Tuberville said. The host offered no pushback, nodding and replying âyeahâ during the segment, failing to fact-check the baseless claims.
Trump Makes Supporting Trans People Ineligible For Public Service Loan Forgiveness Via EO
in Erin in the MorningOn Friday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order drastically limiting public service workersâ ability to obtain student loan forgiveness. Under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, workers at government agencies and 501(c)(3) nonprofits are eligible for loan forgiveness after 10 years of service. But Trump's order threatens to strip that benefitâspecifically targeting employees at organizations that support transgender rights or diversity initiatives. If enforced, the order could have sweeping consequences, cutting off loan relief for workers at countless nonprofits, civil rights organizations, hospitals, and schools across the country.
âThe prior administration abused the PSLF Program through a waiver process, using taxpayer funds to pay off loans for employees still years away from the statutorily required number of payments. Moreover, instead of alleviating worker shortages in necessary occupations, the PSLF Program has misdirected tax dollars into activist organizations that not only fail to serve the public interest, but actually harm our national security and American values, sometimes through criminal means,â says the order.
Organizations that would be barred from the order include what the order calls âsubsidization of illegal activities, including illegal immigration, human smuggling, child trafficking, pervasive damage to public property, and disruption of the public order, which threaten the security and stability of the United States.â Further down in the order, this includes organizations that support âchild abuse, including the chemical and surgical castration or mutilation of children or the trafficking of children to so-called transgender sanctuary States for purposes of emancipation from their lawful parents, in violation of applicable lawâ as well as organizations that are âengaging in a pattern of aiding and abetting illegal discrimination.â
Both of these are common administration euphemisms for supporting transgender people and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
CA Gov Gavin Newsom "Completely Aligns" With Charlie Kirk On Trans Issues In Podcast
in Erin in the MorningThe conversation didnât stop there. Charlie Kirk quickly pivoted to other transgender issues, bringing up Vice President Kamala Harrisâ support for incarcerated transgender people. Newsom agreed that the Kamala is for they/them ads were politically damaging, calling them "devastating." When asked about transgender incarcerated people, Newsom responded, "This was even more challenging⊠because this is issues of people who are incarcerated getting taxpayer-funded gender reassignment⊠that is a 90/10 [issue]," referring to how he believes such policies poll. He also appeared frustrated that Harris "was in the video and expressed support."
At the close of the podcast, Charlie Kirk shifted the discussion to transgender healthcare, stating, "I encourage you to learn about the butchery that is happening under chemical castration in this state. The American people are overwhelmingly against it." Newsom responded, "Yeah. I think we have to be more sensitized to that."
Kirk continued, "Youth should be off limits, you might be right on deportations, I know Iâm right on this," to which Newsom simply acknowledged, "Yeah." Kirk then cited the Cass Reportâa widely criticized and legally discredited review used to justify bans on transgender healthcare in the UKâas evidence that gender-affirming care for youth should be prohibited. Newsom offered no pushback, replying, "Iâm not an expert on this, but I appreciate your broader [point]."
Newsomâs invitation and capitulation to Charlie Kirk on his podcast will alarm LGBTQ+ advocates. Kirk has a well-documented history of extremist rhetoric and hostility toward the LGBTQ+ community. In a 2023 video, he stated, âThese people are sick⊠I blame the decline of American men. Someone should have just âtook care of itâ the way we used to take care of things in the 1950s and 60s, but as you have testosterone rates going down and men acting like women, wellâŠââseemingly advocating for violence against transgender people. Kirk has also repeatedly used the slur "tr*nny" and has encouraged its normalization. He once called transgender people âa throbbing middle finger to god.â In the last election cycle, TPUSAâs PAC, which he leads, spent millions on anti-transgender ads, making his presence on Newsomâs platform all the more striking.
